EVALUATE YOUR OLD SPRINKLER SYSTEM
Everyone is familiar with the above-ground sprinkler system depicted in photo sample 1. Advances in technology have greatly improved the efficiency of spray heads and sprinklers systems. For example, freeze and rain sensors are now available. We recommend a thorough evaluation of your current system to determine if updates are necessary.
WATER-FRIENDLY IRRIGATION
PROBLEM: Irrigation using outdated sprinkler systems cause water waste through evaporation, runoff into stormwater drains, and above-ground wide area watering.
SOLUTION: Install a modern irrigation system linked to a timer that delivers just the right amount of water on a pre-determined schedule. With advances in technology, these systems are more efficient, use less water by directly targeting and benefitting plant roots, and help replenish scarce groundwater.
ADVANTAGE: Another great advantage is that during water restrictions months, drip irrigation complies with water saving mandates and one is not bound to the restrictions. Keep in mind though that drip irrigation is not appropriate for all situations such as lawn and seasonal color.

BIOSWALES
Designing an eco-friendly / water-friendly bioswale is an excellent way to preserve rainfall that can return to the groundwater table instead of flushing to the street and storm drains. Bioswales are functional and beautiful. Gutters spouts can be rerouted to drain into the bioswale to enhance rainwater retention.

Rainbarrels are a popular way to preserve rainwater that can be recycled to provide moisture to your plants during dry periods.
